Manicures have come a long way from the typical acrylic and plastic applications that most people think of when they hear the word. The manicure has evolved over the past to mean something more than acrylic nails that are bad for your natural nail and take hours to apply properly, the gelish manicure or gel manicure is now very popular for several well-formed reasons. The first is that it takes far less time and money than a traditional manicure. The main component in a traditional manicure is the acrylic. This compound is harsh, drying, smelly, and can damage your natural nail bed if worn or applied for a long period of time. The main component in a gelish manicure is the LED nail lamp that cures the polish.

For many doing an acrylic manicure at home is out of the question, the time, effort, and general knowledge that it takes to apply properly is far out of the reach of many. A gel manicure at home however is as easy as applying polish as you would with any typical formula. Since gelish manicures do not require any special filing or filling, anyone can apply one at home with the help of an LED nail lamp to cure the polish and set the manicure. There are some basic rules that you should follow if you are looking to purchase or use an at home LED nail curing lamp. The first thing to remember is that wattage and power do make a difference when it comes to the overall look of your manicure.

For starters, most gel manicures must be cured for a minimum of three minutes under an approved LED nail curing lamp. This means that the lamp has to be both strong enough and of the proper wattage in order for the nail to set properly. You can not for instance just go out in the sun and expect the proper amount of UV rays to filter down to your nails; the light must be concentrated and prolonged in order to set the nail. Keeping this in mind you also want to protect the skin of your hands as prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause skin cancer. You should keep only the nails in the dryer and sometimes try putting sunscreen or other protection on your hands to prevent any skin damage.

Another thing to remember when buying a UV lamp is that price is not always the best decay factor. You should not skimp on the product simply to save money. If you are worried about at home cost you can try buying a kit that generally comes with a lamp and a few starter colors to help cut down overall costs for an at home gel manicure station. Buying the lamp with some polishes and other tools can help cut down overall cost making it far more affordable than possibly buying the lamp on its own. You can expect to pay about $ 200 USD for a good solid lamp that will cure your gelish manicure properly.
