Here’s all you need to know to give yourself a professional paraffin wax pedicure in the comfort of your own home. A paraffin pedicure is the perfect way to give yourself and your feet the break you deserve. So take some time out, relax, and melt into heavenly bliss.

Some of the tips that you’ll find on the web for giving yourself a paraffin pedicure are pretty basic. But here we’ll show you how to do a professional paraffin pedicure at home, like one you would get at a high end spa. The main difference between a traditional pedicure and a paraffin pedicure is what happens at the moisturization step. Where lotion or creme is usually applied, melted paraffin is used instead, adding an enhanced level of moisturization which you can’t get from lotions or cremes alone. It’s important to do a thorough cleaning and foot soak first in order to open the pores of the skin.

After your feet soak up the paraffin, we’ll also use cold water to squeeze the moisture out of the wax into the skin of your feet. A professional paraffin pedicure takes some extra time and some extra supplies, but the results are well worth the effort. This also makes a very special gift that you can perform for a loved one for a birthday, holiday or Mother’s Day.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A wide glass bowl, basin or small tub for the foot soak
  • A large bowl for the cold water soak
  • A double boiler or a large microwave and a large microwave bowl
  • A foot tub or plastic container that’s big enough to comfortably fit both of your feet for the paraffin
  • 3 blocks of paraffin
  • 4 large, thick, clean towels
  • A few cotton pads
  • A few drops of olive oil
  • A nail file
  • A small brush
  • Epsom salts, foot soak or bath salts
  • Exfoliating scrub
  • Foot file/pumice stone
  • Ice cold water
  • Large plastic food bags or freezer bags
  • Nail polish remover
  • Orangewood stick or cuticle stick
  • Some vegetable oil or Pam spray
  • Toe nail clippers
  • Your favorite scented essential oil

Melt the Wax

  • If using a double broiler instead of a microwave to melt your paraffin, bring the water to a boil then to a low simmer. Put in the wax it melts quickly, so keep adding a block of wax every few seconds until you melted all three blocks, then put in a few drops of the essential oil.
  • Set the paraffin pan or bowl out to cool.

Prep and Soak Your Feet

  • Fold up a towel and place it at the bottom of the foot soaking bowl.
  • Now make sure your feet are clean and remove any old polish from your toe nails with polish remover.
  • Clip the nails to length and file to the shape you like. Smooth the edges of the nails.
  • Fill the foot soak bowl with water that’s as hot as is comfortable for you (the hotter the better) and position your chair behind the bowl.
  • Dissolve in 1/2 cup of the salts.
  • Grab a good book or put on some music, slip your feet in and just relax. Soak your feetsies for ten minutes.
  • Now slip your feet out and pat them dry.

Smooth and Exfoliate Your Feet

  • Using the foot file, smooth out any rough & dead skin on the balls of your feet, your heels, and the outsides of your little toes.
  • Use the pumice stone to eliminate any lingering rough areas.
  • Using the small brush, gently buff each foot smooth.
  • You cuticles will be nice and pliable now from the soak, so use the orangewood or cuticle stick to push them back now.
  • Rub the exfoliant on your feet and calves until they feel soft.
  • Now dip your feet into the water once more to rinse, and pat them dry with a clean towel.

The Paraffin Treatment

  • Lightly oil the your plastic foot bath or tub, using the vegetable oil or Pam.
  • Now very carefully pour the warm wax into the container, and let a thin skin form over the top of the wax.
  • Spread a light later of the olive oil over your feet from your toes to the tops of your ankles, completely covering them.
  • Now the wax should be about the right temperature for your feet. Always test the temperature of hot wax by putting a little on your wrist first.
  • Now dip your feet, one at a time, into the warm wax. Take them back out, let them cool just a bit, and dip them back in. Repeat this until you have built up several layers. Let the wax cool just a bit between each dip – the repeated cooling and heating will help to pump the moisturizing benefits of the wax into your skin.
  • Relax and Absorb The Goodness
  • Now place each of your feet into a plastic bag, grab that good book again, and lie down someplace comfortable with your feet up on pillows. Wrap your feet with warm towels or a blanket to keep the paraffin warm while your feet continue to absorb the wax. Let the wax do it’s work now for at least a half an hour.
  • Next dip your feet with the wax into some ice cold water to harden the wax for easy removal. This will also help to squeeze out extra moisturizing goodness from the wax into your feet.

Removing the Wax

  • Now you can remove the wax by placing your feet over some newspaper and simply pulling it away, starting at the top of your ankle and working downwards to the toes.
  • Once the wax is off, apply some good moisturizing lotion.

Now go show off those gorgeous, perfectly soft feet!
